№ Findings — TL;DR
  1. F1. India accounts for 72% of observed AI presentation tool traffic at Instant Deck AI — the single most important market geography signal.
  2. F2.Revenue concentrates in low-volume / high-bid queries: “ai pitch deck generator” commands a ₹1,269 top-of-page bid— roughly 28× the bid on “pdf to ppt” despite ~1.5% of the volume.
  3. F3. 5 of 7 major tools have free tiers that effectively expire (one-time credits, limited deck counts, or trial-only). Two — Canva and Instant Deck AI — offer permanently-free usage.
  4. F4. AI generation speed has converged at 22–42 seconds across major tools — a 1.9× spread that’s become a second-order differentiator.
  5. F5. Gamma, Canva, Beautiful.ai, Tome, and Presentations.AI all require a 12-month annual commitment as the minimum paid path in India. Instant Deck AI is the only one offering a one-time 30-day pass.
  6. F6.“PowerPoint timeline maker” is the breakout query — searches are up +823% over the last 3 months vs the prior 3, with a ₹585 top-of-page bid that confirms real commercial intent.
№ Methodology

Three data sources, each disclosed below. Every finding cites which source it draws from.

1. Instant Deck AI Clarity recordings
204 sessions captured via Microsoft Clarity on instantdeckai.com between 12:00 AM 16 May 2026 and 11:59 PM 17 May 2026. Used for: geography of demand (F1). Limitations: this is our own traffic mix and does not represent the wider AI presentation tool user base.
2. Google Keyword Planner
200 keywords pulled with full bid + volume data, covering India + United States + United Kingdom in English, period 1 April 2025 – 31 March 2026. Seed terms: ai presentation maker, pdf to ppt, pitch deck generator, gamma alternative, ai slide generator, text to presentation, ai ppt maker, presentation generator, gamma app. Total addressable pool: 1,301 keywords. Used for: F2, F6.
3. Hands-on testing + public pricing pages
Generation-time data from first-hand use of 6 tools between April and May 2026, using identical prompts across tools (see /learn/gamma-review-2026 and /learn/presentations-ai-review-2026 for methodology). Pricing data verified against public pricing pages of Gamma, Beautiful.ai, Tome, Canva, Presentations.AI, Pitch, Decktopus, and Slidebean on 18 May 2026.
F1

India dominates AI-presentation-tool traffic

72% of observed sessions on Instant Deck AI come from India. The next-largest market (Netherlands) accounts for 6%.

Source: Instant Deck AI Clarity recordings, 204 sessions, 16-17 May 2026.

Reads as a sample-size caveat first — 204 sessions over two days is a snapshot, not a long-term signal. But the cluster is consistent with Google Trends data showing India as the fastest-growing search market for “ai presentation maker” over the last 12 months. For an AI presentation tool, India is now where most product decisions should be made.

F2

The revenue map is upside-down vs the volume map

The highest-volume queries pay ₹13-45 per click. The highest-bid queries (₹1,269 for 'ai pitch deck generator') are 50-100× lower volume.

Source: Google Keyword Planner, top-of-page bids in INR, Apr 2025 – Mar 2026.

The implication: a tool that ranks for “ai pitch deck generator” (1,600/mo at ₹1,269) earns more annualized revenue than one ranking for “pdf to ppt” (246,000/mo at ₹45), even though the latter has 153× more traffic. The file-conversion queries are a top-of-funnel acquisition channel — not a revenue engine.

F3

5 of 7 major free tiers effectively expire

Most 'free' AI presentation tiers in 2026 are one-time trials in disguise: 400 one-time credits (Gamma), 3 free decks (Presentations.AI), trial only (Beautiful.ai).

Source: public pricing pages, verified 18 May 2026.

Fairness scored subjectively on a 1-10 scale combining: recurring monthly usage allowance, presence of watermark, deck count limits, and whether the tier is permanent or trial. Canva leads because the free tier is genuinely usable for production work indefinitely. Instant Deck AI scores 7.0 because of its permanent-but-limited 1-deck-per-month allowance.

F4

Generation speed has converged at 22-42 seconds

Across 6 major tools, end-to-end AI generation time is now 22-42 seconds. Speed has stopped being a top-3 differentiator.

Source: first-hand testing, identical prompts, April–May 2026.

Two years ago AI generation took 90+ seconds and speed alone was a differentiator. In 2026 the spread is 22–42 seconds — fast enough that the slower options don’t feel slow. The next competitive frontier is what happens AFTER generation: editing flow, export quality, and the ability to iterate per-slide without regenerating the whole deck.

F5

India pricing is annual-only across 5 of 6 major tools

To get the cheapest paid tier in India, you must commit 12 months upfront on Gamma, Canva, Beautiful.ai, Tome, and Presentations.AI. One tool — Instant Deck AI — offers a one-time 30-day pass.

Source: public India pricing pages, verified 18 May 2026.

Indian SaaS buyers — especially founders and consultants — are significantly more sensitive to upfront annual commitments than US buyers. The structural opportunity: the only tool with a one-time-payment option in India captures the segment of buyers who want to evaluate before committing 12 months. This is the most actionable finding in the report for product managers at competing tools.

№ Implications

What the six findings mean for the people building, buying, and writing about AI presentation tools:

  • For builders: if you are choosing where to invest engineering effort, the highest revenue-per-effort wins are in the pitch-deck and AI-slide-generator clusters (₹400–1,269 bids), not in file-conversion volume.
  • For Indian buyers: evaluate one-time-payment options before committing to an annual contract. The structural inequality in India pricing is real and Instant Deck AI’s ₹999 one-time pass is the clearest exception.
  • For writers:the “Gamma is the leader” framing is true on revenue and brand recognition but obscures real product gaps (PPTX export, credit system, India pricing). Coverage that engages with the specific gaps is more useful than category-leader recap pieces.
  • For investors: the category is still expanding fast (+49-127% YoY on generator-suffix variants), and revenue concentration in the high-bid pitch deck cluster suggests room for at least one more vertical-specialist tool focused on fundraising workflows.
  • For trend-watchers: the “PowerPoint timeline maker” growth pattern is a leading indicator. Niche-utility AI tools are emerging from the general-purpose tools’ blind spots — and they often have higher bids than the parent category.
